19 reflective observations (contd)

Reflecting can pave the way for deeper revelation. You begin to see the things you didn't see before. You are able to understand yourself from your previous decisions and actions. It can be an intense time but powerful for your growth and renewal. Let us continue.

I had to divide my observations into 2 posts to give you time to digest what you are reading. It really isn't about rushing but realising and in realising, recognising. Receive what you need for you to move into the new and be forever changed for greater and higher of what is available to you in Jesus Christ.

11. When everything else fails, laugh and love more.

I would have to say that laughter has been one of the greatest remedies for me in the difficult and darkest moments. You can always find something to laugh about. It is sometimes easier to laugh than to love but when we laugh with those we love it makes it easier.

You probably already know this, that #laughter releases hormones in our brain which reduces the level of stress we are feeling in our body. It doesn't stop there, these hormones also help to strengthen our immune system. Wow, I guess laughter has been more than therapy for me.

Get rid of the #negativity trying to weaken you and laugh out loud, see how quickly your emotions change and your body feels at ease. I bet you will feel strengthened to show love when you feel less stressed.

12. Don’t let anyone convince you to let go of your God-given dreams, He gave them to you and will walk with you to fulfil them.

OMG! This is something I had struggled with for years. I found freedom when I finally accepted God loves me. For years, I didn't accept His love and felt I had to do all manner of things to win His #love - performance and works do not equal intimacy yet faith without works is dead.

Psalms 139 shows us how intentional God is toward us.

He never intended for us to do life without Him. When we look at the lives of those in the bible, we see the reality of this - relationship. Abraham is referred to as 'a friend of God', David a man after my own heart, and Jesus always did what He saw His Father do. Destiny!

Destiny and design are intertwined and who created you - God did.

There are many things that can try to prevent, delay, disrupt and stagnant destiny but with God, we can be courageous and overcome all things.

13. Love is more than an emotion. It can be expressed as an emotion but there is so much more to love than feelings.

This is my personal opinion when you separate your emotions from the idea of expressing love and see it as an action you take toward yourself and others you are more likely to get on with it. When we are transformed and maturing in the things of God we realise how much we must stay connected to God in order for us to receive what is necessary to do life with others as well as ourselves. Without being connected to God, you only express your flawed emotion of love.

Those who are loved by God, let his love continually pour from you to one another, because God is love. Everyone who loves is fathered by God and experiences an intimate knowledge of him.  The one who doesn’t love has yet to know God, for God is love. The light of God’s love shined within us when he sent his matchless Son into the world so that we might live through him. This is love: He loved us long before we loved him. It was his love, not ours. He proved it by sending his Son to be the pleasing sacrificial offering to take away our sins. - 1 John 4:7-11 (TPT)

God is love and He is perfect. He loves perfectly. Let's allow Him to teach us to do what He is.

14. Take time to reflect and review your relationships. There is a time for everything, be ready to let go.

I think this is something we probably take for granted. We may not even recognise when it is time to let go. You just wake up to the reality that what made you form a relationship in the first place no longer interests you. You may even find there is more tension but you assume it is just a difference of opinion.

Nope, things have changed. You have changed. The relationship no longer fits you, it restricts you. Time to let go.

We are told to maintain our relationships and I agree but we also need to recognise that we have different relationships in our lives at different times for different reasons and purposes.

Don't make the mistake of holding on to a relationship passed it's required time otherwise you could be preventing the new from coming into your life.

By the time David had finished reporting to Saul, Jonathan was deeply impressed with David—an immediate bond was forged between them. He became totally committed to David. From that point on he would be David’s number-one advocate and friend. Saul received David into his own household that day, no more to return to the home of his father. Jonathan, out of his deep love for David, made a covenant with him. He formalized it with solemn gifts: his own royal robe and weapons—armor, sword, bow, and belt. 1 Samuel 18: 1- 4 MSG

Saul called his son Jonathan together with his servants and ordered them to kill David. But because Jonathan treasured David, he went and warned him: “My father is looking for a way to kill you. Here’s what you are to do. 1 Samuel 19:1-3 MSG

David went on his way and Jonathan returned to town. - 1 Samuel 21:1

David's friendship with Jonathan saved his life, and when it came time for David to move on their relationship helped him do just that.

Whether you choose to review your relationships or not, they will be tested and you will have to decide what is best for you going forwarding in life at the 'right' time.

15. Create space for the new or the old could delay what’s coming.

I mentioned this about relationships but it applies to various aspects of our lives - from relationships to jobs, locations, roles/positions, #businesses and #mindsets.

There comes a time in life when your opportunity to receive the new requires you making space by letting go of the old. I find it interesting how we start to prepare when the seasons are changing. We get out the clothes suitable for the weather and put away the clothes we can't use because it's either too hot or too cold. We get ready for the new season.

In life, it is important for us to do a regular spring clean to identify what is no longer relevant to us in the present time we find ourselves. It would be ridiculous to apply for a job in 2020 with a CV you wrote in 2000. You would have to update it or it wouldn't represent a true picture of you because 20 years of your work history is missing. WIll you get the job? Probably not.

Create a new, clean heart within me. Fill me with pure thoughts and holy desires, ready to please you. - Psalms 51:10 TPT

Our hearts need to go through cleansing as well. This requires us to draw closer to God for the true state of men's' hearts can only be seen by God. A clean heart depends on our relationship with Holy Spirit and the application of God's word - the bible. It goes beyond the surface, what is seen outwardly is an indicator of what is going on internally, which can only be hidden for a limited time.

As for us, we have all of these great witnesses who encircle us like clouds. So we must let go of every wound that has pierced us and the sin we so easily fall into.[c]Then we will be able to run life’s marathon race with passion and determination, for the path has been already marked out before us. - Hebrews 12:1 TPT

Take time to work on you and the different areas of your life, don't get so caught up on being busy and going through the motions. You need this time, it is part of preparing for what lies ahead.

16. Keep some things hidden until the appointed time or the opinions of others could kill the seed and it will never grow.

Listen this is literally the story of my life because I used to be a bit of a chatterbox. I get so excited about what God is doing with me, I start blabbing off my mouth and then poof, nothing! Simply because I valued 'their' opinion over mine.

This probably never happened to you, and I pray it never does because it can be a way for a person's life, ideas, dreams, opportunities, time and resources to be stolen, killed and destroyed.

Be careful of the people you tell your 'stuff' to, there is Godly counsel and there are those who are mere foxes dressed in sheep's clothing. Do not be fooled, deceived, derailed and manipulated.

The only incomparable teacher of all time and all realms is HOLY SPIRIT and the Bible is God's living word our manual for life.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalms 119:105 (AMPC)

Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go. - Proverbs 3:5 TPT

Be empowered by God to follow the path set before you.

17. God rested on the seventh day, so why can’t you, are you creating more than the world?

I initially laughed when I wrote this down but it is serious. Many of us have got caught up in the hustle and grind of life. Everyone wants to be everything, do everything and go everywhere. We want more and more 'stuff'. No rest, no time for our families, no time for ourselves.

Are you more than God? Are you creating the world? Come on! God commanded us to rest on the sabbath. This command was so important to God that He provided the Israelites with extra manna in the wilderness over 40 years so they do not disobey it.

Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Work six days and do everything you need to do. But the seventh day is a Sabbath to God, your God. Don’t do any work—not you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your servant, nor your maid, nor your animals, not even the foreign guest visiting in your town. For in six days God made Heaven, Earth, and sea, and everything in them; he rested on the seventh day. Therefore God blessed the Sabbath day; he set it apart as a holy day. - Exodus 20:8-11 MSG

God created the entire world and He rested on the seventh day. What makes you think the day of rest is no longer holy to God? When God says anything it is final. The Sabbath day is a blessed day for us to be in a place of peace before God. A time of fellowship. It reminds me of Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus (Luke 10:38-42) and Jesus saying, "Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her".

The funny thing as well is that God gave us the ability to create from a place of rest in Jesus Christ.

So then, there is still awaiting a full and complete Sabbath-rest reserved for the [true] people of God; For he who has once entered [God’s] rest also has ceased from [the weariness and pain] of human labours, just as God rested from those labours peculiarly His own. Let us, therefore, be zealous and exert ourselves and strive diligently to enter that rest [of God, to know and experience it for ourselves], that no one may fall or perish by the same kind of unbelief and disobedience [into which those in the wilderness fell]. - Hebrews 4:9-11 AMPC

You have to make the decision for yourself - sit at His feet on Sabbath day or disrespect the command of God?

18. Don’t be fooled by fake news it’s a counterfeit to what’s real and will only distract you.

Fake news is one of the biggest and most destructive, disruptive and deceptive tools being used in the world today on multiple levels.

You just have to shut it down. Just because it's trending does not mean you need to be a part of spreading lies. The power to manage what news you see or hear is really in your hands.

Yep, that's it. Get away from the news you don't want to see.

19. The only way to break free from the grip of fear is to increase your faith in God. Evict fear immediately, it has no place in you.

When a tenant rents a house, they sign a tenancy agreement and pay rent. If for any reason they do not adhere to the terms within the contract, the landlord can evict them.

Well, as a Christian, you are the house. When fear comes in, it has no right to be there unless you have allowed it in and this can happen in a number of ways. Jesus paid the price for you to live free. So when fear surfaces, you have the power to evict it because it is trespassing. Your house belongs to God and there is no room for squatters.

No matter what you face call on your Landlord and evict the squatter immediately in the name of Jesus - through prayer, transforming your mind by His Word and spending time in worship before HIm. Demonstrate your #faith by taking action - speak out your belief and take charge by going against fear.

Tips on how to self-reflect:

  • Practice by taking action

  • Give yourself time

  • Press pause on life

  • Use a journal - printed or online

  • Ask yourself questions and don't be afraid of the answers

Living an unexamined life can cause you to lose sight of what's important in your life.
