Time to begin again

Updated: Apr 19, 2020

With everything happening around the world today, I keep hearing within me, “It is time to begin again”.

How do we consider starting again at a time like this? Death, loss, fear, and uncertainty is so prominent in the world around us.

And yet I hear it clearly:

It is time to begin again.

There is something unusual and inspiring about being in this season. I find myself thinking about the question Mordecai asked Esther, “And who knows but that you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this and for this very occasion?”

I believe God is purposive in nature and as such, there is a time and season for everything He created. The very fact you are alive gives hope to see beyond the present.

I know it is challenging to focus on anything else with people facing so much loss, grief and uncertainty every day around the world because of COVID-19. But we have to turn our gaze to Jesus and rest in the unchangeable truth – God is in control, He is all-powerful, all-knowing and makes a way of escape.

I am not ignoring the effect of COVID-19, which is currently pushing every nation around the world to insufferable limits. However, I believe as individuals currently experiencing social distancing and isolation, we cannot take our eyes off the future.

With our sight fixed in faith on Jesus Christ, we must seek Him for direction.

The Bible shows us through the experiences of the Israelites, being in the wilderness does not have to last forever. We can enter the promised land, and it is time to proceed. But the question is, are you watching and listening from the ‘right’ channel for the ‘right’ updates and direction?

The pandemic has forced us to individually reassess what or who we depend on. For so long we have been busy! Busy doing life, or so we thought.

Now we are left with the question, "who are we really?", and wonder as we see:

  • Our relationships being tested

  • The systems we depended on being overwhelmed and stretched.

  • Our quality of life dwindling right before our eyes

  • Businesses unable to operate

  • Jobs no longer secure or roles changing

I can’t help but question what have I invested my faith in all this time? A job? property? position? title? These questions and thought are not to incur fear, not at all. It is to ignite a spark in you to A.S.Kask, seek and knock.

In the book of Matthew, Jesus teaches us to ask God for what you need. From verse 7 - 11 reads:

“Continue to ask, and God will give to you. Continue to search, and you will find. Continue to knock, and the door will open for you. Yes, whoever continues to ask will receive. Whoever continues to look will find. And whoever continues to knock will have the door opened for them. “Do any of you have a son? If he asked for bread, would you give him a rock? Or if he asked for a fish, would you give him a snake? Of course not! You people are so bad, but you still know how to give good things to your children. So surely your heavenly Father will give good things to those who ask him. (Matthew 7:7-11)

My question to you is, will you utilise this time to discover what God is saying about you to you? Will you make the most of the time you have with loved ones? Are you willing to be bold and face your God-given purpose?

Life as we knew it, has changed.

I cannot see us going back to living how we did, why would you? However, I wonder if we are willing and ready to begin again?

Beginning again should be about you being true to God’s plan and design for your life. When I think of the life of Jesus Christ, His desire was to do the will of His Father. While the Heart of Father God is to love you. The question is, do you realise what you desire and who you love?

I know I for one have spent many years pursuing and desiring the irrelevant things. I have lived for unnecessary things and I have loved the wrong way. As I choose to accept the prompting to begin again in this time, it is my heart’s cry to focus on loving God first above all else, my first step. Where will it lead? I look forward to adventuring with the Holy Spirit to find out, as I posture my heart to A.S.K.

The Word of God reminds us of the mercy, goodness, and faithfulness of God. You will find encouragement and hope in His Word.

Here are some verses to encourage you.

  • Jesus glanced around at them and said, With men [it is] impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God. (Mark 10:27 AMPC)

  • God is our Refuge and Strength [mighty and impenetrable to temptation], a very present and well-proved help in trouble. (Psalms 46:1 AMPC)

  • Seek the Lord and His strength; yearn for and seek His face and to be in His presence continually! (1 Chronicles 16:11 AMPC)

Remember we are facing these times on a global scale, and standing together makes us stronger. Pray for one another and check in on others in any way you can.

Begin again with Jesus and rest in who He is.
