While preparing to share during a prayer session, I asked Father, “what can I speak to them about?”. And I heard clearing the question, “where are you?”. I was led to read Genesis 3 verse 9, “But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” (ESV)

As I pondered on this question, my initial thought was, “why would God who knows and sees everything be asking Adam, “where are you”? He wasn’t asking the question because He lacked the knowledge or information of where Adam was, He was making a statement to Adam.

Adam and Eve hid from God because they had disobeyed His instruction. The glory and light which had clothed them were removed. Their eyes were opened to see their nakedness. They became aware. Their true nature had been weakened. Giving in to temptation had brought death to their spirit and separation from God.

When I shared this, I spoke about questioning our position with and in God, to abide in Him. But upon further reflection, I was drawn to the response of Adam to God, “And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.” Genesis 3:10 (ESV)

Where they were, reflected what they had done and whose they had become.

The garden was designed for worship, intimacy, fellowship, blessing and abundance. Being in God’s presence was natural because His righteousness, glory and light, was the robe man was dressed in. Living spirit to Spirit. Without sin.

Once they ate from the tree of knowledge, they became slaves to satan and gave away their birthright. Their identity wasn’t eroded, it became illegitimate. They became orphans.

Thank God for Jesus Christ, through whom we are saved and restored to God, as His children. “For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.” Romans 8: 15 – 17 (ESV)

And yet many of us continue to live outside of the garden. We adopt the mentality that we are still slaves, still driven out of the garden and still naked. We hid from God, influenced instead by satan’s deceptive tactics and worldly distractions, even our past mistakes stifle us. Instead of recognizing who’s we are and where we are in Christ, children of God and heirs with Christ. Adopted through Jesus Christ, appointed to receive an inheritance. We have the glorious Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, to guide us and strengthen us.

And so, I ask YOU, where are YOU?

Busy doing life without Jesus?

Afraid to approach God’s throne of Grace?

Held back by past sins and ashamed?

Experiencing isolation?

Tired of feeling rejected?

Abused and undervalued?

Facing condemnation?

Or you feel lost and broken?

I have been there. I have been through the difficult currents of life; in storms, which seem too heavy to endure, yet God always makes a way. He is always faithful to deliver. All we need to do is respond to Him in faith through Jesus Christ. God wants us to abide in HIM.

God loves you and He has a plan for you and wants you to come into a place of intimacy with Him, so He can heal you, restore you and make you whole – who He created YOU to be. Disclose where you are, call onto God and He will answer you right where you are.

“He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” Romans 8:32 (ESV)

Father, I call out to You. Help me to know where I am with You. Holy Spirit, reveal Your truth and be my strength. Lead me into Your Presence and touch my heart. Restore me into intimacy with You in Jesus name, amen.
